7th grade Introduction to Guitar
This nine week exploratory class includes learning about various types of guitars, the parts of the instrument, and how to care and use the acoustic guitar. Students are supplied an acoustic classical guitar to play in class. The group learns the string names, how to tune the instrument, and eight chords. The majority of the class time is spent on practicing folk and pop songs that use these eight basic chords. There is also a short unit on playing melodies on the guitar. Students do not need to be able to read music to participate in the class.
