Our graduates pursue further training after high school, and for the past five years we have calculated our post-graduation plans as follows:

Community College or Two Year Technical              35%
Other Training                                                                  5%
Military                                                                                3%
Full-Time Employment                                                   12%

Since 1956, sixty-one students have achieved the status of National Merit Finalist. Beth Pearson, a 2001 graduate of Indianola High School and a 2005 graduate of Whitman College, was selected as a Rhodes Scholar.

Many of our graduates stay in Iowa for their post-secondary education, but other institutions our graduates have attended are the Air Force Academy, Arizona State University, Denison University, Duke University, Naval Academy, Northwestern University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, University of Southern California, Whitman College, Yale University, and other prestigious institutions.

A strong fine arts program, including band, orchestra, vocal, and drama provides many opportunities for students to become involved at school. Our Visual Arts program has been very strong and our students have the opportunity to explore and perfect their skills in all mediums.

Many extra-curricular clubs and activities are offered to our students, and allow them to pursue a wide variety of interests and to participate at a level which is comfortable for them.

A strong athletic program has been part of the IHS tradition for many years, providing students with high quality coaches and facilities. Our gymnasium, softball field, and baseball field have recently gone through some wonderful changes and new addition, making are facilities second to none in our conference. IHS is a member of the Central Iowa Metropolitan League Conference. Teams included in the Central Division are Ankeny, Dowling Catholic, Johnston, Indianola, Southeast Polk, and Urbandale. Indianola has provided the community and school with competitive programs at the conference and state levels

We set high expectations for our staff and students, and believe by doing this; our programs and school will only become stronger and make our students more competitive in academics, athletics, and the fine arts.

These are our Core Expectations for students & teachers.
