CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 

In June 2013, voters in the Indianola school district approved two different bond referendum ballot questions which will have a significant impact on our district’s facilities.  As communicated through the bond issue campaign, the future school tax levy as a result of the bond issue will not exceed the 2012-13 overall levy rate of $20.46. Approximately $29 million of construction work will take place during the next two and a half school years.  Here is the latest update:

March 2015

Irving Elementary

• The entire project has now been accepted as substantially complete.

• The identified “punch list” items continue to be addressed.

• The district will communicate with Simpson College to address any concerns related to their potential use of the new parking lot for their home events.

• The fence along the north side of the property will be reinstalled. A gap of about 50 feet will exist. Replacement of the entire fence will be added to the list of facility needs and addressed as funding is prioritized.

Whittier Elementary

  • The entire project has now been accepted as substantially complete.
  • The identified “punch list” items continue to be addressed.
  • Radon testing will be done after the project is complete.

Varsity Stadium

  • East Parking Lot: The east parking lot project is complete.
  • The project has been divided into three additional bid phases:

o North Parking Lot (Phase I)–-Bids accepted. Substantially complete

o Bleachers/Press box (Phase II)—Bids accepted

o Main Building (Phase III)— Bids accepted

  • Two alternates were accepted 
o Entry arch 
o Second meeting room
  • The allowance for furniture, fixture and equipment (FFE) has been 
reduced from $250,000 to $50,000. Purchase of a new scoreboard is on 
hold.
  • Work has commenced.

High School

Door Hardware

This portion of the project has been accepted as complete.

Building Renovation

  • The scope of this project has been finalized.
  • Bids were accepted December 22, 2014.
  • Construction is scheduled February-December 2015.
  • Work has commenced.

Emerson Elementary

  • Bids were accepted at the October 27, 2014, Board meeting.
  • Asbestos abatement bids were accepted at the November 10 2014, Board 
meeting.
  • The project will be phased over summer 2015 through first semester 2015- 16. Grades 4 and 5 will be relocated to Irving Elementary.
  • Some work has commenced.
